  San Huang San (Herbal Ice)
  San Huang San (Herbal Ice)
San Huang San

San Huang San (Herbal Ice) is composed of Chinese herbs that reduce inflammation while dispersing congealed blood and fluids. This is the single most useful herbal poultice for your first aid trauma kit! This is most helpful for immediate sprains, strains, turned ankles, muscle pulls, twisted wrists or severe contusions. Where ever you would use ice, use San Huang San instead!
When an injury occurs, blood will stagnate in the muscle tissue and often does not reabsorb back into the system. The blood can congeal and harden, adhering the muscle fibers together and blocking normal circulation, creating pain and stiffness. Applying ice can exacerbate this injury in the long term. San Huang San will reduce inflammation and speed healing.

Powder comes in 2 sizes: 50g and 100g (4oz and 8oz jars)
Pre-mix salve comes in 4oz and 8oz jars.

Technical Specs:
  • Application:
For bruises, contusions, sprains, strains, muscle pulls or any type of injury where you would normally use ice.

    Directions for use (Pre-Mixed Salve):
Apply thickly like cake frosting to the injury. Cover with gauze pads or paper toweling and wrap with rolled gauze. Bandage firmly in place, but not so tight as to restrict circulation. Leave in place for several hours or overnight. For large muscle mass, like hamstring, apply thinner layer and cover with gauze wrapping.
Pre-mix is in a base of pure petroleum jelly.
    4 oz jar

    Directions for use (Powder):
Mix a small quantity of powder into green tea or with egg white to a thick paste-like consistency (egg white is preferable for swelling due to ligament/tendon damage, like torn meniscus). Then apply as above. Prepare only as much as you need for each application.
    approx 65g

Note! Foam Underwrap makes an excellent covering wrap for San Huang San. It is less expensive than gauze and just as easy to use.

Testimonial:
"This last summer I found ticks on my horse-"Midnite's" back legs-, two weeks later she had shifting lameness, could barely stand, no fever, and no one really knew what was wrong.  After the vet came out and thought maybe she had arthritis (a common mis-diagnosis, especially in horses) and treated her by wrapping her legs in DMSO.   As a side note, just in case: we treated her with antibiotics for one week intravenously through a catheter.  She got better.

Three months later, this November she went down again, and could not get up. I thought we were going to have to put her down.  We treated her again with tetracycline and I wrapped her legs in HERBAL ICE, and she got better.   I kept massaging with TENDON LOTION.  She did great for about 2 months and then she went down again.  Since no one "knew" what was wrong with her, I became adamant that she may have Lymes.  She did NOT test positive for it, but that is also common as the bacteria lies dormant in joints, bones, and comes back when there is stress.
That's when I started researching Lymes disease and found out that a constant dose of antibiotics for 3 weeks on and one week off is recommended.  During the off week I use HERBAL ICE with leg wraps & TENDON LOTION without wraps for her legs, hips and back, feed her ground flax seed, a probiotic and a daily dose of isotonic "blood cleanser/antioxidant" called OPC3. I had decided to try an "alternative approach".
Most people would probably have given up on their "special needs horse".  Because I believe in that stagnant Qi can be moved, and cleansed, and because of the excellent products from Suigetsu Shop,  I was actually able to ride her a couple of times so far, which I never thought I would do again.
It's a day to day process, and I am so grateful for the products."

Ive used Herbal Ice on a number of occasions to take care of the many sprains and strains that come along with training.  Recently I gave some to my next door neighbor who son is an avid basketball player.  To his surprise it worked great. Okay it doesnt smell pretty but it does the job.  Try it just once and you will be hooked.

I was surprised! September 3, 2008
Reviewer: Pete Loshigian from Greenlawn, NY United States
My knee was significantly swollen, and it was suggested I try the herbal ice. Not having used traditional Chinese medicine before, I had my doubts but figured it was worth a try. Much to my surprise the swelling was greatly reduced after only one application. Still not totally convinced, I tried an experiment- I applied it to all but one side of my knee on the second application. The next morning, the side not treated was visibly more swollen than the treated side! After three applications I was able to train with only minor discomfort. I also happened to step on a wasp in my yard with my bare foot. While I was icing it down, I decided to give herbal ice a try- next morning, all the swelling was gone! I don't have any idea why it works, but it does- I'd recommend you give it a try.

Herbal Ice is incredible. I can honestly say I've never used anything that worked this well, this quickly. If you're at any kind of school that does heavy sparring, buy this stuff. You'll use it.

Great for acute injuries June 30, 2007
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Northport, NY
I fell and had a huge amount of swelling from impact in my right knee.  I wrapped my knee overnight after coating it with herbal ice and by morning, the pain and swelling had decrease at least by 75%.  It was amazing and easy to use.  It doesn't hurt like ice does and is more effective.  Definately use under-wrap to wrap it and avoid a mess.
